Not everyone in the world is a baby-crazy infertile.

I know! Hard to believe, isn’t it?!?

Here’s a guide for the sane people who don’t know what all of our abbreviations stand for.  If I’m missing anything or get anything wrong please feel free to call my attention to it in the comments.

TTC – “trying to conceive” i.e. the reason all of the rest of these acronyms exist

OPK – “Ovulation Predictor Kit” – in other words, little tiny sticks that women dip into cups of pee in order to figure out their “sweet baby making lovin'” schedule.

HPT – “Home Pregnancy Test”

BFN – “Big Fat Negative” – usually referred to in the context of HPT’s

BFP – “Big Fat Positive” – see above

DPO – “Days Past Ovulation” – and for some of you that may be TMI

TMI – “Too much information”

POAS – “Pee on a Stick”  – a favorite hobby of people who are TTC and hoping for a BFP

U/S – “Ultrasound.” Our continuing dates with Ole’ wandy.  A way to get pictures of the internal plumbing.

HSG – “Hysterosalpingography.” Yes, that’s an actual word. And it hurts!

IC – “Incompetent Cervix.” Sounds like something out of an employee evaluation. “We find Cervix to have great intentions, but unfortunately, the level of job performance is bordering on incompetent.”

BLM – “Babyloss Mom.” ‘Nuff Said.

IF – “Infertility.” It sucks.

AF – “Aunt Flo” – Aka our monthly visitor, the red lady, menstruation, that thing at the end of a sentence, period.

CD – “Cycle Day”  – number of days since the last time the red lady has shown up.

CM – “Cervical Mucus” – yes. I just wrote “cervical mucus”. Now you understand why abbreviations are necessary. Women sometimes use this as an ovulation predictor as well.

EWCM – “Egg White Cervical Mucus” – Hopefully that doesn’t require more explanation. Please tell me that it doesn’t. Kthnxbye

MC – “Miscarriage” of course.

BBT – “Basal Body Temperature” – used along with OPK’s  and CM to predict ovulation.

DH– “Dear Husband” – Dear husband, please learn these abbreviations so I no longer have to type out the words “cervical mucus”

DB – “Dear Boyfriend” Dear boyfriend, please see above.

IVF – “In-Vitro-Fertilization” Expensive and hopefully avoidable.

PCOS – “Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome”  – um, just google that.

TWW – “Two Week Wait” – the time between ovulation and aunt flo – where us crazies go even crazier trying to figure out whether we’ll get a BFN or BFP when the two weeks end.

BD – “Baby Dance” i.e. Sex. Involving cervical mucus. Sorry. Typing that out is getting a bit addictive.

DD – “Dear Daughter” – used sometimes in forum sigs to represent babies that are born. Usually accompanied by birth date.

DS – “Dear Son” – See above – male version.

AFK – “Away From Keyboard” – has nothing to do with TTC but gives me an excuse to post this clip:

CM – Cervical Mucus.

Wait – I already did that one….

Yeah, that *WAS* a bit TMI, but some of it did get me ROFLing. It definitely seems to put in perspective the BMO (baby-making obsession) from the last post.

Glad to see The Red Lady has made the list, lol. And I honestly had no clue as to what AF stood for (even though I knew what it ment). I kept trying to think “a friggin’…” but couldn’t figure out why it stopped there. Ya, I could have googled it.
